For most Tensed homes, yes. A metal roof costs more up front than shingles, but it usually outlives two or three shingle roofs, sheds rain and snow better, and does not peel off in a hard wind. We will price metal and shingle side by side so you can compare real numbers instead of guessing.
Most Tensed houses are a two to four day job. A straightforward shingle roof can be done in a day or two. A cut up metal roof takes longer because every panel, valley and trim piece is measured and fit on site rather than pulled out of a box.
Often, yes. Plenty of the Tensed roofs we get called to look at need flashing reworked or a section refastened, not a whole new roof. We will tell you honestly which one you are looking at, and if it is repairable we would rather repair it.
Yes. Gutters, guards, soffit and fascia are all part of keeping the edge of a Tensed roof dry, so we handle them along with the roof instead of sending you off to find somebody else to finish the job.
Sometimes. If the decking is sound and there is only one layer of shingles, a Tensed metal roof can go over the top on purlins. If there is rot underneath or two layers already on, we tear off first — and we will tell you that before you sign, not halfway through.
A typical Tensed shingle roof runs roughly $8,000 to $18,000 in 2026 for an average single family home, and more if the deck has rot or the roof is steep and cut up with dormers. We do not price off a satellite photo — somebody comes out and measures.
